Must बोल is a call to young people to examine violence in their lives and speak out against it. To recognize it, to talk about it, and to address it. This is violence that all of us witness, experience and participate in and many times emerges from our gender identities.
There is a tendency in all of us to disassociate with violence because "it would never happen to me." Must बोल is a call to look deeper.
It’s a Campaign led by a core group of 22 young people from Delhi, exploring the realities of how dominant gender norms create restrictive situations in our lives and inviting other young people to join the dialogue and efforts to change the situation.
The Must बोल Campaign has been facilitated by Commutiny the Youth Collective, an organization that celebrates and nurtures youth leadership for social change.
Must बोल is an experimental effort to explore and leverage the power of social media for social change. 'Social media' is emerging as a 'hang out' space for diverse young people. The campaign seeks to invite people to use the internet space to create and contribute videos around their experiences and questions, 'fearlessly' type in and share their thoughts and click to "like" positive action, "share" meaningful experiences and "add" more meaning to their Facebook experience! Together, we want to highlight gender based violence as a real and everyday concern against which the youth of today Must बोल!
The Campaign also reaches out to young people in Delhi, through multiple events, workshops and calls for action across University campuses and public venues.
The Must बोल core group has identified three key themes for the Campaign:
- Violence in intimate relationships
- Violence emerging from dominant gender norms
- Violence stemming from the popular ideas of body image.
Must बोल is a collaborative and co creative space. The Campaign builds on expertise and experience of diverse organizations and resource persons with a strong concern on Gender based violence and engagement with young people.
Must बोल has financial & technical support from Partners for Prevention and UN Women.
