“Violence against women is not only restricted outside their home, but they are equally unsafe inside their own house. One needs to pay attention”

Amrita Sarkar is a recent science graduate from Delhi University, yet her engagement with fine arts has been equally intense and long-standing. She holds diplomas in classical dance and music. She has also played state-level table tennis. An interest in the film-making process has recently culminated in a 4-minute short film Kaash which was screened at the Hyderabad film festival, 2010 and Vibgyor International film Festival 2010. She is continually intrigued by the aesthetic appeal of all sorts of visual media. However, a short documentary on women's rights made while in school reflects her conviction that the arts can be galvanized to rouse an apathetic society. Art's relevance, for her, truly lies in its ability to empower individuals with the power of ideas. Amrita has attached herself to the Core Group of the Must Bol Campaign to spread the message of gender-peace across a seemingly patriarchal society. Amrita currently works as a Project Assistant with Magic Lantern Foundation.
