It’s Do Or Die
One particular exercise which Pramada Menon made us do during the Must बोल gender workshop was a situation based exercise. Since it cleared a lot of things in my head, I would like to share it on the blog. The situation goes like this, there is a village on the banks of a river and across the river lives a man who has been prosecuted for being a rapist, but the court has never found him guilty. So one day a lady goes for some work on the other side of the village. Its late evening and it starts to rain heavily, the river swells up.
The lady needs to return home as she needs to go back to her husband.
She can’t swim and cross the river because if she does she will die.
So the options left to her are, one that she can choose to cross the river via boat, since she has no money she will have to pay by having to sleep with the boatman, with whom she can negotiate the terms.
The other option left to her to reach to her husband is through the path which passes by the house of the infamous man who has been prosecuted many a times by court, but never in his life had he been proven guilty.
So what do you think you would do in a situation like this?
Hint: There is no right or wrong answer but it’s important to understand if you chose an option then why?
